How the MCC™ cooling engine works

A magnetocaloric cooling system uses a material whose temperature changes when exposed to and removed from a magnetic field. A controlled cycle and heat-transfer loop move heat from the cold space toward the ambient environment.

1 • MagnetizeMaterial warms

A magnetic field changes the thermodynamic state of the magnetocaloric material, increasing its temperature.

2 • Reject HeatMove heat outward

Heat-transfer fluid carries heat toward the hot-side exchanger and ambient environment.

3 • DemagnetizeMaterial cools

When the field is reduced, the material cools and becomes ready to absorb heat from the refrigerated side.

4 • Absorb HeatCool the cabinet

The cold-side exchanger transfers cabinet heat into the working loop, completing the cycle.
