Safety role
The mission computer may request an action; a separate safety authority determines whether that action is allowed to proceed.
Required controls
- Independent safety controller or equivalent architecture with direct inhibit capability.
- Safety state machine designed around de-energize, stop, land, isolate or controlled retreat as appropriate.
- Redundant emergency-stop channels where risk and scale warrant them.
- Watchdog supervision and fault containment between mission, communications and safety domains.
- Configuration control so safety authority cannot be casually bypassed by normal software updates.
