Safety role
AI perception supports the mission, but safety decisions must tolerate misclassification, occlusion, sensor degradation and novel objects.
Required controls
- Unknown or low-confidence targets default to no treatment and may trigger slow/stop behavior.
- Independent or diverse sensing where consequence warrants redundancy.
- Health monitoring for cameras, LiDAR, thermal, radar, positioning and environmental sensors.
- Dataset/version traceability for safety-relevant perception updates.
- Fallback modes that reduce capability rather than silently accepting degraded perception.
